Trolley Guard

Trolleyguard is a patented electronic system that stops the removal of shopping trolleys from retail sites and dramatically reduces all trolley-related expenses.

Trolleyguard Perimeter Protection

The Problem
  • Outright loss or theft of trolley
  • Costs associated with retrieval of borrowed trolleys
  • Environmental concerns with possible fines from city council
  • Extra inventory that must be maintained to compensate for missing trolleys
  • Excess maintenance expenses that result from abuse and damage to trolleys
that are removed from store property.
  • Contamination/bacteria associated with dumped and mistreated trolleys.
The Solution

The system is built around a rugged, computerized caster and a buried perimeter antenna. The system incorporates an RF transmitter that generates a low frequency, low power signal along the antenna line to define the limit of trolley travel.

When a TROLLEYGUARD -protected trolley rolls within close proximity of the antenna line, an integrated braking shell is electronically released to roll down under the wheel, where it locks in place to disable the trolley. With the touch of a master button a disabled trolley is ready to roll.

The optional Anti-Tilt bracket mounted on a rear wheel eliminates the ability to tilt the trolley on the two rear wheels, making the trolley impossible to push.

The Benefits
  • Immediate reduction in trolley loss and replacement.
  • Customers always have more trolleys available that are cleaner.
Repair and cleaning costs are lower.
  • Eliminates 99% of the time previously spent for trolley retrieval from the neighbourhood or no longer paying contractors to retrieve trolleys for you. So far this seems to be the most significant savings made from existing installations
  • Capital savings result from 20-25% reduction in trolley fleet inventory
  • Low cost of operation
  • Fewer wheel replacements, lower operational costs.
  • With a TROLLEYGUARD wheel replacing a normal wheel the replaced wheel
can be kept as a spare part.
  • System is difficult to defeat
  • No extra operational costs or complications
  • Electronic reliability and all weather operation
  • Sites with more than one supermarket, can share the cost of installation.
The Installation

(1.) To ensure your store has the least disruption during installation we will analyse the site prior to development.
(2.) We will design the most efficient antenna layout together with the placement of signage and yellow lines clearly indicating the system boundaries.
(3.) The signs will be posted at points of customer contact to advise them of the presence of the system. Lamson work with the retailer to ensure customers experience a smooth transition to the new system.
(4.) At all times care and consideration will be taken of your shoppers while installation of the system is being undertaken.

Trolleyguard Push Out Protection

The New Push Out Protection system uses the Trolleyguard castor to prevent shopping trolleys being used for store theft. More and more supermarkets are opening up the store entrances so customers feel more welcome and hopefully spend more money. But removing the “shark teeth” devices at entrances has made it easy for shoplifters to leave via the entrance with a shopping trolley or shopping basket full of groceries.

How the system works
A customer arrives at the store, collects a shopping trolley or shopping basket and enters the store. The customer goes through the store doing their shopping, proceeds to the check out, pays for the goods and leaves. Nothing else happens and the customer is none the wiser about the security measures in place. A shoplifter arrives and everything operates in the same manner as it did for the customer, until he or she attempts to leave through the entrance rather than passing through the checkouts.

When the shoplifter leaves the store through the entrance the following chain of events occur:
❏ The Trolleyguard castor on the trolley will lock.
❏ Alarms and lights are activated.
❏ Supervisor/security pagers are alerted immediately via an internal paging system.
The perpetrator of the attempted theft will almost certainly flee the scene and never return to that site.

Options
  • CCTV activation
  • Automatic door entry disabled, closing the doors
  • RFID tags on shopping baskets
  • Integrate system to existing EAS systems
  • Any configuration of alarms & lights
